It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of longtime member Jan Springer on June 19th, 2025. Born on February 19, 1939, she passed away at age 86. All that knew her have lost a great hiking friend.
Jan was a long-time member of the SaddleBrooke Hiking Club, having joined on October 26, 2002. She was a regular participant in the Club’s morning walks and hikes. She also contributed to the club as a member of the Programs Committee from 2014 to 2017.
Tributes to Jan are coming in from the membership, and I wanted to share one that is from Sandra Sowell:
“Jan Springer, our spunky little eighty-something year old friend and hiking buddy, succumbed to her heart when it stopped beating on June 19, 2025. She wasn’t ready for that… maybe she asked too much of it. She did have much more to do. But her usual morning would find her up very early, doing her thing, arriving in her flashy blue golf cart…. going for a walk, to water aerobics, a hike, to jazzercise… or all of the above together before 9 AM. And then it would be on to golf, or an informative class, or a presentation by local performers, or serving cookies at Resurrection Church in SaddleBrooke. She’d greet you with a big smile and a hug. And if she agreed with you…fine. If she didn’t, you got a “well, OK”. And she was always ready to have a glass of wine.
We sure miss you, Janet Springer. Guess a reunion with your tall, handsome James is what you were really missing. Rest in Peace, dear friend.”
A Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced later.
