About this event
Birding Trail. Rating: D. Pace: Slow [135, 07:00 AM, $2 + $2]. This is very enjoyable hike starting from the main trailhead in Catalina State Park. We walk along the Sutherland Wash and follow a mostly level trail through beautiful mixed mesquite forest, with one short climb up steps to a point above the wash with good views. We will focus on observing and learning about resident and winter visiting birds and other wildlife we may encounter as we stroll quietly along at an easy pace. Great for all levels of birding, beginning and intermediate, and an excellent introduction to the Sonoran Desert. Hikers should bring binoculars for best experience. Hike can be extended to Nature Trail or Canyon Loop depending on interest. Some water crossings are possible. Hike 2-4 miles; trailhead elevation 2700 feet; net elevation change approx. 400 feet; accumulated gain 499 feet; RTD 24 miles.
