MY NEW FAVORITE HIKE! Finger Rock, Pontotoc Connector, Pontatoc Canyon Loop. Rating: B. Pace: Moderate [188, 06:00 AM, $6]. The hike begins from the Finger Rock Trailhead at the north end of Alvernon Way. The Finger Rock Canyon Trail climbs about 500 feet in the first mile and then 1000 feet in each of the two subsequent miles where you arrive at the Linda Vista Saddle. We'll stop a few minutes for snacks and great views of Tucson. From the Saddle, we take the new Pontatoc Connector Trail and we will return to the trailhead via the Pontatoc Canyon Trail. The new connector trail is beautiful offering many dramatic canyon and Tucson views. ***Scrambling is necessary at some points going up. Coming down on the connector part of the trail is a gentler, smoother return though there are still some big steps on the older Pontatoc section of the return. Hike 7 miles; trailhead elevation 3120 feet; net elevation change 2500 feet; accumulated gain 2523 feet; RTD 44 miles.
