Arizona Trail: Molino Basin Campground to Gordon Hirabayashi Campground. Rating: C. Pace: Moderate [562, 08:00 AM $12] The hike starts with a relatively flat stretch before gradually inclining through a rugged landscape. As you make your way along the trail, youll pass towering saguaro cactuses and an array of desert plants like prickly pear, oak, and juniper. As the trail progresses, it becomes rocky. In return for the climb, you're rewarded with breathtaking views overlooking the Molino Basin and the surrounding desert terrain. Our turnaround and lunch spot is the Gordon Hirabayashi Campground (formerly known as Prison Camp). In 1999, the Coronado National Forest renamed the site in honor of Dr. Hirabayashi and the other resisters of conscience who were imprisoned there. There are several informational boards about the interesting history. Hike 5 miles; trailhead elevation 4370 ft; accumulated gain 780 ft; RTD 94 miles.
