(A***) The Cleaver -- CANCELED
About this event
The Cleaver. Rating: A***. Pace: Fast and Moderate [06:00 AM, $5]. Unnamed 4910 - locally known as "the Cleaver" - is a jagged, rocky ridge located on the Pusch Ridge. Hike starts off in Pima Canyon to about the 1st Dam (approx 1.5 miles), this portion will be done at a quick pace. The climb of UN 4910 starts out as off-trail hiking through shindaggers, catclaw, and many other varieties of cactus... and finishes on the loose rock of the Cleaver itself. Due to these difficulties, the Cleaver is not often approached and even more seldom climbed. However, for the persistent (or masochistic!) the summit rewards you with magnificent views of the southern Arizona desert to the west and the Catalinas to the east. Hike Approx. 6-8 miles; trailhead elevation 2960 feet; accumulated gain approx. 3000 feet; RTD 42 miles.
