Titanic Rock Loop. Rating C***. Pace: Moderate. [NEW, 07:00 AM, $0]. Meeting point will be The Preserve Clubhouse parking by the basketball hoop. The special condition designation of *** for this hike is due to the steep climb up the bare rock surface to the top of Titanic Rock. After carpooling to the trailhead on Willow Canyon Drive, the route crossing the CDO from the trailhead and continues on a loop course. The trail passes Balance Rock (great photo option) then begins winding to the top of Titanic Rock with great views of the Preserve, Biosphere and CDO. The hike continues east for about a quarter mile where it branches north towards a significant canyon rim and magnificent overlook. This trail follows the canyon rim and ends up just above the Golder Dam Spillway. After passing through the Spillway, the trail drops into the CDO and returns to another trailhead on Willow Canyon Drive. Route is 3.1 miles; net elevation gain: 700 ft.
This hike is on or crosses Arizona State Trust Land: "The Arizona Land Department's trust management responsibilities include requiring a permit or lease and charging a fee for use of Trust land. Please note that Trust Land is private (not public) and requires a recreation permit for hiking which can be obtained through the state land department." Permits are valid for one (1) year after purchase.
