The annual meeting of the SaddleBrooke Hiking Club was held on Friday, March 22, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the Gila Monster picnic site at Catalina State Park.
President Ruth Caldwell opened the meeting with comments on recent technology accomplishments, recognizing the creation of the Tech Team by Bruce Landeck in 2022. Members of that team were Dave Corrigan, Randy Park, Ken Wong, and Ruth Caldwell. The first major milestone came in 2023 with the implementation of online member dues payments on the WordPress website by Ken Wong, Dianna Wilson, and Arlene Daigle.
The next major milestone was the successful campaign to get technical help from members, resulting in Bill MacSween and Dave Schafer (ClubExpress) and Terry Heggy (Videography) stepping up to help the club. Following the formation of the ClubExpress implementation team in November 2023 (headed by Dave Corrigan and comprised of Bill MacSween, Dave Schafer, Ken Wong, and Dianna Wilson), the new website was successfully and quickly launched in February 2024.
Credit was also given to the guide corps who quickly learned how to use the system and successfully loaded the March-April hikes into the Hikes Calendar. Special recognition was given to Dave Corrigan for his role not only for the implementation of ClubExpress but also for his long-term contributions to technology for the club.
The next agenda item was recognition of the 2024 Trailblazer recipients. They are Frank Earnest (Guide, former Senior Chief Guide, Trip Director, and First Aid Class Instructor) and Ray Peale (Guide, former club Treasurer, Steward for the club’s segment of the Arizona Trail, and leader of the AZT work sessions.)
Next, Ruth introduced Missy Rodey who provided members with an overview of the Gear Gift and Grab Event. Coordinators were Maria Spencer and Maria Szentirmai. Thanks to all who participated in this fundraising event for the club - $105 was raised.
The next agenda item was the election of Board of Directors positions. Elected unanimously for the next term were:
- Vice President: Dale Leman
- Secretary: Lynda Green
- Associate Chief Guide: Terry Hughes
Remaining on the Board are:
- Vice President: Ken Wong (moves to President)
- Associate Chief Guide: Marc Humphrey (moves to Senior Chief Guide)
- Treasurer: Arlene Daigle (completing second two-year term)
